The new cooperation will create a new market for discarded mattresses after consumption

HORGEN, Switzerland, October 7, 2020/CSRwire/-Europe’s leading supplier of flexible polyurethane foam solutions, Vita Group and Dow (NYSE: Dow) today jointly announced the RENUVA™ mattress recycling program The next stage is to produce flexible polyurethane (PU) foam made of RENUVA™ polyol-the raw material is made from recycled mattress components. This milestone is the logical next step in the journey of Dow's circular economy program RENUVA™ mattress recycling program.

Through this announcement, the RENUVA™ mattress recycling program will demonstrate the possibility of closing the post-consumer mattress cycle and the role of PU in the circular economy. As previously announced, Eco-mobilier will provide Orrion Chemicals Orgaform's first industrial-scale production plant in France with post-consumer PU mattress foam for chemical recycling. The result of this process will be new polyols that can be used in foam solutions. The Vita Group will start using RENUVA™ polyols at its ICOA production site in Crancey, France, in early 2021. Vita will also work closely with its customers and mattress brands in the French and European markets to promote the application of foam in new mattresses and seek applications in other product areas.

"Vita Group was inspired to cooperate with Dow in the innovative RENUVA™ program. Sustainability and innovation are an integral part of Vita culture, our mission and values. We are committed to becoming a pioneer in the development of circular economy in the industry, The post-consumer flexible PU foam will be recycled into new raw materials and used in our manufacturing process to produce new high-quality foam," said Ian W. Robb, Group CEO of The Vita Group.

"We are proud to be able to expand the RENUVA™ ecosystem by allowing Vita to join the use of RENUVA™ polyols to produce flexible foams. Their market experience and focus on sustainability will help accelerate the industry’s realization of a circular economy for flexible polyurethane foams. "Dow Polyurethane EMEAI Commercial Vice President Ana Carolina Haracemiv said.

The RENUVA™ Mattress Recycling Program aims to recycle up to 200,000 mattresses in France each year and help solve the problem of landfill and incineration. Initial production of RENUVA™ polyols is expected to begin in the first half of 2021.
