In 2014, the global demand for polyurethane products was about 20.3 million tons, and the new demand mainly came from emerging markets such as Asia-Pacific and South America. MDI In 2014, the global MDI production capacity was about 7.095 million tons, and the newly added production capacity was mainly Wanhua Chemical 600kt and Bayer Shanghai 150kt. The global MDI industry is highly concentrated, with Wanhua Chemical, Bayer and BASF ranking the top three in terms of production capacity, accounting for 67.5% of the global production capacity in total. From 2015 to 2018, global MDI production capacity will remain at about 1.76 million tons, mainly in China. Major projects include Shanghai Bayer 500kt and Chongqing BASF 400kt. 2. TDI In 2014, global new TDI production capacity mainly included Wanhua Chemical's 300kt and German Bayer's 300kt. BASF's new 300kt plant in Germany will be put into production in the second quarter of 2015. As of the end of 2014, the top three companies with global TDI production capacity were Bayer, BASF and Wanhua, accounting for 64.8% of the global TDI production capacity. 3. PPG's global polyether polyol production capacity totaled approximately 9.5 million tons in 2014. The surplus is obvious, and the capacity utilization rate is only about 70%. The global polyether polyol industry is highly concentrated, dominated by many multinational companies such as Bayer, BASF, Dow Chemical and Shell.
