The newest member of Songwon Industrial Co., Ltd.'s antioxidant series is a liquid butylated octylated amine antioxidant, which is suitable for various substrates including polyols. Songnox 5057 complements Songwon's already extensive range of amine, phenol, phosphite and thioester antioxidants, designed for flexible polyurethane slabstock foam, elastomers and hot melt adhesives. Foams are used in many different industries, from furniture and bedding to automotive parts and sports applications.

It is said that Songnox 5057 is used in combination with hindered phenols (such as Songnox 1135 or Songnox 1076) to prevent degradation of polyols during storage and transportation. In addition, in the manufacturing process of flexible polyurethane foam, this combination prevents the scorching of the foam center, that is, discoloration.

"Due to its low volatility and liquid form, Songnox 5057 is suitable for a variety of substrates and applications," explains Thomas Schmutz, head of technical service and application development. He added: "In many industries, the quality standards for foams are becoming stricter. Because Songnox 5057 contains very little residual diphenylamine, we can meet the needs of specific customers in demanding polyurethane applications."

Songnox 5057 is produced at Songwon's plant in Ulsan, South Korea. Since other industry standard amine and phenol (Songnox 1135) antioxidants are already produced there, the new product helps to further increase economic value through production efficiency and scale. "Our state-of-the-art factory enables Songwon to supply products cost-effectively globally, and is strategically located to support customers all over the world, including Asia, the fastest growing market," the polymer stabilizer business unit is responsible Elena Scaltritti commented.

"Songwon's focus and continued investment in key cutting-edge solutions that meet today's high standards once again underscore our long-term commitment to the plastic additives industry," Scaltritti continued. "The additional internal production capacity allows Songwon to successfully expand by developing additives for products other than polyolefins."
